We are delighted to be able to showcase our fabulous School in our Virtual Open Day and we very much hope we will be able to give you a flavour of our wonderful School from the comfort of your own home. We really look forward to being able to welcome you in person to Wellington in the near future, and hope you will be able to book in for an individual tour or a meeting (in person or remotely) with our key staff.
As we do not have Saturday School, our September Open Morning is always very busy with pupils giving tours, helping out in departments, performing around the campus and taking part in sports fixtures.
When you arrive, the campus is looking green and lush, there is a purposeful buzz around the site, pitches groomed and the sun streaming in the windows of our glorious Chapel.
As you park, you will hear wafts of music as some of our music scholars will be singing, playing the guitar and enjoying playing in ensembles in the sunshine!
As you enter the School, our Admissions team will bounce up to welcome you, take your details, ply you with superb home-made cake and freshly brewed coffee.
You now move through to our Great Hall – an impressive space which seats 350 and is used for drama productions, concerts and assemblies. One of our musical ensembles is playing and the Headmaster and Head of Prep are ready to welcome you to the School.
Our pupils are our greatest asset, and so many of them are eager to share their Wellington experiences with you.
Meet this year’s School Captains, Abi and Elliot, who have been through the Prep and Senior School.
You would now be teamed up with a pupil who would show you around the School. We always ensure you have someone with shared interests or experiences who can transmit some of their own enthusiasm to you. These range from Year 6 pupils in the Prep School, all the way through to our Upper Sixth students. Today, you can “meet” some of our students in the Prep School and the Senior School.
So now you are heading off around the campus, which is alive with activity!
Buskers play music on our Chapel steps, pop-up drama groups appear, there are sports fixtures on all the pitches, the new astro-turf and in the Olympic standard Sports Complex. As you go into each department, you will be met by staff who eagerly tell you all about their subject. Our staff are passionate about their areas of expertise and their enthusiasm is echoed by the pupils who are with them.
You will see experiments, bangs and explosions, historical figures re-enacting scenes, sample Roman food, try laser shooting with our pentathlon team, make personalised acrylic key-rings in DT, be inspired by the creativity of the amazing Art team, hear all about our outstanding Outdoor Education programme, listen to our heavenly Chapel Choir performing, experience activities with the Combined Cadet Force, meet Professor Snape in the English department and visit our fabulous French café.
You will also see some of our boarders involved in their weekend activities programme. Today, this includes basketball, DT, Art and Sewing. Later on, they may have a trip or an outing, which may include zorbing, go-karting, paintballing, a visit to the historical city of Bath or a shopping trip to London.
So now, you can sit back, relax, pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy the tour from the comfort of your sofa. You can visit both the Prep School and the Senior School and also boarding if you wish…
We very much hope you enjoyed your tour and discovered some of what makes the School so special. Our pupils feel known and understood by the staff who teach them, creating strong relationships. Here are some of the key individuals who are responsible for the day-to-day care and support of our Senior School pupils.
At Wellington School, there are so many fabulous activities, events and trips on offer and we want our pupils to give things a go, get stuck in and step out of their comfort zone to try new things. We look to build confidence and nurture individuals to achieve great things; a child lacking self-esteem will grow, develop and thrive with support from our community.
So, enjoy a window into the life of our pupils…
A happy and fulfilling education is built upon a “Triangle of Trust”;
School, Pupils and Parents
Each has a role in supporting, informing and enabling a mutually rich and beneficial relationship. So here is what some of our parents and local community say about us…
The Admissions Journey
We have a straightforward admissions process, which varies slightly for each point of entry. Please do contact us – we would be happy to talk you through how it works. You can see the timeline here.
With a wealth of parental and independent school experience between them, there is always someone to assist you! You can get to know the admissions team below.
Remote Learning
During the Covid-19 lockdown, we ran a comprehensive Remote Learning provision which students accessed from home. This proved to be hugely effective with all our community. We currently have a number of students who have not been able to return as planned – either due to quarantine, Covid-19 isolation or complications with travel plans. Our Academic Deputy Head explains how we are able to support these students.
Thank you for joining us today – we have been delighted to welcome you to our lovely school. We are so proud of it and are pleased to be able to show it off – even under such unusual circumstances!
Our Registrar, Rachel Debenham ran a live Question and Answer session, at the end of the virtual open morning and you can watch the session back here.
We would love to hear your feedback, so please complete the Open Morning feedback form below. We will contact you early next week to discuss your requested follow-up. There is a great deal more information below to explore at your leisure. The link in your email will remain live for you to access this Open Day again the future.
