Welcome to our Virtual Sixth Form Open Evening, we are delighted to have you with us. 

We hope this virtual event will provide you with an overview of the Sixth Form at Wellington School and the subjects on offer and also to hear from key members of staff including Head of Sixth Form, Mrs MacAlister.

You will, no doubt, be focused on your GCSEs at the moment and we hope you are enjoying being back at School.  Our Academic Deputy Head now offers some advice on how to go about choosing your A Levels and BTECs.

Your academic study is important in the Sixth Form and rightly so, but at Wellington there is so much more on offer.  There are opportunities to develop yourself through our vast co-curricular and enrichment programme.  We understand what makes a successful Sixth Form student and that involves having fun as well as working hard.  With a wealth of experience in looking after young adults, our Head of Sixth Form, Mrs MacAlister and Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Mr Garrett know how to get the balance right.

There is now the opportunity to browse through the subjects on offer at A Level and BTEC, to hear from Heads of Department a little more about what you will study. There is also information on some of the extras provided for students in the Sixth Form such as Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), our support for Oxbridge and Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary students and English as an Additional Language for overseas students.

We offer a number of Scholarships into the Sixth Form in the following disciplines;

  • Academic
  • Sport
  • Music
  • Drama
  • Art & Design
  • Performing Arts

For our own Year 11 students, these are awarded automatically, following either recommendations from Heads of Department or mock GSCE results.

External students have a separate process of application.

You can now explore some of our Co-curricular opportunities which complement academic study throughout the Sixth Form.  Wellington Sixth Formers keep busy with a huge variety of activities in School but also some amazing globe-trotting to countries such as Nepal, Iceland and Morrocco.  We are beginning to offer more chances to take part in excursions offsite but very much hope that by the time you are settled in the Sixth Form here, our programme of trips around the World will be back up and running.  Our Head of Co-curricular, Mr Renyard, introduces our outstanding provision.
